Okay, lately I have been regretting going to art school/planning to have a career in the arts.
I was feeling the same way last semester. After taking my ecological anthropology class, I was constantly hitting myself over the head. I regret not taking a year off like I originally planned to travel, or to do a foreign exchange trip, or going to school for biology or anthropology. I was also starting to feel burnt out, but once I finally found a specific passion that I had about drawing, it made it easier to have more fun with it again. I love animated movies, and I love the work that goes into them into bringing the different characters to life by the skilled hands of an animator.
Since you like doodling and coming up with characters, there isn’t any reason why you can’t be a character designer for the types of games you love. That may be something to look into instead of doing freelance, because I sure as hell don’t want to do that either. The video gaming/ internet gaming industry is HUGE.
The one thing that art does give us is a lot of options of where to go with it. I’m sure you’ll make it work for you somehow. You are a wonderful and creative person Linda. :) And there is always going back to school… which sucks but at the same time you could start off at community college again until you are sure of what you want to do. And maybe in the long run that would be good for you two, because then you can find a way to combine art and your new passion together to do something awesome.
